Welcome

Welcome to the new Centre for Gene Research (CGR) website. The website has been redesigned to comply with the guidelines of the Website Advisory Committee of the University. Since I am the Chairman of that Committee, I have to be like Caesar's wife: "above reproach" and comply with the policies while trying to maintain a separate identity for CGR. Your comments and suggestions are invited.

History

The Centre for Gene Research (CGR) was established in 1990 to act as a focus for people working in gene research by exchanging information on techniques, reagents and expertise. The CGR provides a DNA sequencing service to its members and to workers outside the CGR on a cost-effective basis.

The organisation of the CGR is relatively informal with emphasis being placed in stimulating intellectual activities and in assisting with initiatives that come from the members themselves. Currently there are 348 members from eight different departments and as well as members from outside the University of Otago. The CGR is currently administered by a Director, Associate Professor James Kalmakoff of the Department of Microbiology and a 12 member committee.
