Retirement of the CG. July 2009. Many of the functions of the 'old' CGR have been superceded by the new entities Genetics Otago, Centre for Reproduction and Genomics, Otago Genomics Facility High Throughput DNA Sequencing Unit and NZ Genomics Limited.

December Graduations: Dec 15 2007
Dr Robert Webster an Otago graduate will be presented with an honarary doctorate and speak at the December 15th Ceremony on his influenza virus research. The graduation ceremonies this year include the award of many PhD's to students associated with the CGR, several in the field of Molecular Virology.
14th Annual Centre for Gene Research Poster Evening, 21nd June 2007.
The Centre for Gene Research Annual Poster Night, 2007, was held again at the Otago Museum. There were over 70 participants with some only able to come for part of the events on a wintry night.
Speaker : John McEwan, AgResearch, Sequencing the cattle and Sheep genomes: Why and How
John described how and why genome sequencing is being done for these species. Taking it from a point of view of the economic benefit to NZ in sequencing these genomes. He outlined how livestock improvement makes it well worth the investment. Sequencing was done for cattle at a low cost of only US$60M (NZ contributed 1M) compared to 3 Billion for the human genome.
